Abiragis 500mg Tablet (Abiraterone Acetate 500mg Tablet) – Overview
Abiragis 500mg Tablet contains Abiraterone acetate, used to treat prostate cancer. It is an androgen biosynthesis inhibitor that lowers the production of testosterone, which can slow the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Medical Uses / Indications
Abiraterone acetate is indicated for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer, usually in combination with prednisone or prednisolone.
How Abiragis 500mg tablet Works (Mechanism of Action)
Abiraterone inhibits CYP17, an enzyme required for androgen production. By blocking this enzyme, abiraterone reduces the production of androgens (male hormones) not only in the testes but also in the adrenal glands and the tumor itself, which helps to slow or stop the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Dosage & Administration
- The typical dose is 1000 mg (two 500 mg tablets) taken once daily on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food).
- Abiraterone is usually given with prednisone or prednisolone to reduce the risk of side effects.
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
