Inbec Tablet Tablet (Abacavir 600mg, Dolutegravir 50mg and Lamivudine 300mg) – Overview
Inbec tablet contains Abacavir 600mg, Dolutegravir 50mg, and Lamivudine 300mg is a fixed-dose combination medication used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection.
Medical Uses / Indications
This combination is indicated for the management of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents weighing at least 40 kg. It is used as part of antiretroviral therapy to reduce the viral load and improve immune function.
How Inbec Tablet Works (Mechanism of Action)
- Abacavir is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that prevents HIV from multiplying by interfering with the viral RNA-dependent DNA polymerase (reverse transcriptase).
- Lamivudine is also an NRTI that inhibits reverse transcriptase, further blocking HIV replication.
- Dolutegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that prevents the integration of viral DNA into the host genome, a crucial step in the HIV life cycle.
Dosage & Administration
The usual adult dose is one tablet (containing 600mg abacavir, 50mg dolutegravir, and 300mg lamivudine) taken orally once daily, with or without food. Dosage may need to be adjusted for patients with certain medical conditions.
Possible Side Effects
- Common: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, and abnormal dreams.
- Serious: Hypersensitivity reactions (especially due to abacavir), liver problems, lactic acidosis, severe allergic reactions, worsening of hepatitis B infection (if present), and changes in body fat distribution.
Seek immediate medical attention for signs of severe allergic reactions such as rash, fever, shortness of breath, or swelling.
Drug Interactions
This combination may interact with other medications, including metformin, rifampin, anticonvulsants (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin), antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, and certain antibiotics. Inform your healthcare provider of all medicines you are taking.
Precautions
- Screen for HLA-B*5701 allele before starting due to risk of abacavir hypersensitivity.
- Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment.
- Monitor for signs of lactic acidosis and liver toxicity.
- Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed; consult your doctor.
Storage & Handling
Store at room temperature (20–25°C or 68–77°F), away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the next dose. Continue with your regular dosing schedule.
