How Nevir ER 400mg tablet Works (Mechanism of Action)
Nevirapine binds directly to reverse transcriptase, an enzyme essential for the replication of HIV. By inhibiting this enzyme it prevents the virus from multiplying in the body.
Dosage & Administration
Nevirapine Extended Release (ER) 400mg Tablets: The typical adult dose is one 400mg tablet taken orally once daily, after a 14-day lead-in period with immediate-release Nevirapine 200mg once daily. Nevirapine ER should be swallowed whole, not chewed, crushed, or split. It may be taken with or without food. Always take as prescribed and do not adjust your dose without consulting your healthcare provider.
Possible Side Effects
- Common: Rash, nausea, headache, fever, fatigue.
- Serious: Severe rash (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), liver toxicity (symptoms may include jaundice, dark urine, abdominal pain), hypersensitivity reactions. Seek medical attention for severe symptoms.
