Velpaclear 400mg/100mg Tablet (Sofosbuvir 400mg & Velpatasvir 100mg) – Overview
Velpaclear tablet is a combination medication containing Sofosbuvir 400mg and Velpatasvir 100mg, used to treat chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in adults and children.
Medical Uses / Indications
This medication is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection of all major genotypes (1-6), with or without compensated cirrhosis. It is often prescribed for patients who have not responded to other treatments.
How Velpaclear tablet Works (Mechanism of Action)
Velpaclear tablet combines two direct-acting antiviral agents that inhibit key proteins required for HCV replication. Sofosbuvir inhibits the NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, while Velpatasvir inhibits the NS5A protein, stopping the virus from multiplying and infecting new cells.
Dosage & Administration
The usual adult dosage is one tablet (400 mg Sofosbuvir/100 mg Velpatasvir) taken orally once daily, with or without food, for 12 weeks. Dosage may vary for children or based on specific patient factors. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions.
Possible Side Effects
- Common: Headache, fatigue, nausea, insomnia, and diarrhea.
- Serious: Allergic reactions, severe bradycardia (especially if taken with amiodarone), and liver problems. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms like yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe fatigue, or difficulty breathing.
Drug Interactions
Velpaclear tablet can interact with other medications, such as rifampin, St. John’s wort, certain anticonvulsants, and antacids. Always inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.
Precautions
-
- Do not use if allergic to Sofosbuvir or Velpatasvir.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver problems, other medical conditions, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Monitor for reactivation of hepatitis B if previously infected.
Storage & Handling
Store Velpaclear tablet at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it in its original packaging and out of reach of children.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
